About the project

  • Client: Asian Development Bank
  • Category:
Uzbekistan is going through a rapid development process with remarkably high yearly GDP growth rates. Incorporating solar energy can bring multiple benefits by providing fast deployment of needed generation capacity in a way that makes use of a free local resource such as solar radiation. In 2013, ADB supported a project to develop Solar Energy with the ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan and Physic-Sun as implementing agents and Solar Technology Advisor as lead Consultant (JV STA-Nixus-CSP Servicies). The team comprised 20 experts (international and national). The project analyzed steps required to create an enabling environment for this industry: Roadmap for solar energy development, a Solar Resource Assessment and up to six Solar Energy Projects were identified.

Scope

CSP and PV development in Uzbekistan

Benefits of Project

Uzbekistan is going through a rapid development process with remarkably high yearly GDP growth rates. Incorporating solar energy can bring multiple benefits by providing fast deployment of needed generation capacity in a way that makes use of a free local resource such as solar radiation.

ADB supported the project with the ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan and Physic-Sun as implementing agents. The team comprises 20 experts (international and national).

The project starts by studying steps required to create an enabling environment for this industry.

Starting with Roadmap, Solar Resource Assessment, up to six Solar Energy Projects have been identified.

Methodology

For each project a full Feasibility study was carried out:

  • Technical due diligence.
  • Detailed cost estimate.
  • Financing plan.
  • Initial environmental examination (IEE).
  • Social analysis.
  • Poverty Reduction and Social Strategy summaries.
  • Social impact assesment.
  • Gender Action Plan (GAP).

A NAMA and Roadmap for solar development in Uzbekistan was prepared submitted to UN and approved by GoU.
